KYC for crypto casinos without the document pile
Blog · 3 November 2026
Crypto casinos win players on speed. A wallet, a deposit and you're playing. That speed is also the opening for fraud. When an account costs nothing but a new email address, the same person can hold ten of them, claim ten welcome bonuses and cash out from all of them.
Why document KYC is a poor fit
Full document checks ask for a passport, a selfie with it and sometimes proof of address. Many crypto players drop off at that step, and the operator is left choosing between friction and fraud. Documents also don't answer the question that matters most day to day. Is the person withdrawing today the same person who opened the account?
What a face check gives you instead
- One face, one account. At registration the face is searched against your other players, so a second account under a new email is flagged.
- The same person at cash out. Ask for a ten second check before a withdrawal and a stolen login stops at the camera.
- An age signal. Every check returns an AI age estimate you can use to route a player to a stricter check.
- No uploads. The player fits their face to a mask in the browser. Nothing to photograph, nothing to install.
Where it sits in your flow
Most operators start with three moments. Registration, to bind the account to a face. Withdrawal, to make sure the owner is the one cashing out. And any risky change, such as a new wallet address or a password reset. Your backend creates a session with one API call, the player completes the check, and the verdict comes back by HMAC signed webhook. The docs walk through it end to end.
A note on regulation
Rules for crypto gambling differ by licence and by country. Where your licence requires identity documents, a face check works alongside them rather than replacing them: the document proves who the player is once, and the face proves it's still them every time after.
